Before I moved out to LA, I thought that I'd try my hand at concept design for video games. So I had an idea to combine an M1 Abrams Tank with a monster truck that could be used for warfare on another planet. So I did a really quick sketch (which I looked for, but just can't find...) then jumped right into sketchup. It was a ton of fun, and it took me about 4 days to complete, with another week to color. I believe this was the first model I've ever fully rendered out in Photoshop. So below is the black and white sketchup model, and the top is the fully colored version. Enjoy;}Justinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12357508074752584374noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4004092622617150088.post-44467633766627506702011-10-03T10:54:00.000-07:002011-10-03T11:03:54.841-07:00"Bleed on the Flag" So, this is from a comic that I was/have been working on with a good friend of mine, Filip Sablik. He approached me years ago about this awesome para-military, spy comic that he'd written and asked if I'd help develop it as a comic to be released through Top Cow. I jumped on board and we spent a lot of time trying to get it published, but it was right at the apex of the economy tanking, so it got shelved. We talk from time to time about doing it again, but I don't know if either of us have time now.
So, at least we have a ton of artwork from the project, and this being one of them. This is the cover for issue one. I did 100% digital, and it was a big step for me, having done all of my previous work traditionally. I got the concept from Mission Impossible 3 when Lawrence Fishburne's character had a line "...and I will bleed on the flag to make sure it's stripes stay red." I thought that would make an intense image, and this character share's the same sentiments about old glory.

So, here you go, hopefully we'll get this book out one day, perhaps as a webcomic or something;] til then, you'll just have to enjoy this!
Justinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12357508074752584374noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4004092622617150088.post-64733210007826412442011-09-28T15:31:00.001-07:002011-09-28T15:33:53.341-07:00The ImmortalThis is a piece I did a little while ago now. INT - OFFICE - DAY - ROLL OPENING CREDITS!Yo, what's up homies ;} It's ya boy, jusdog. I've wanted to start my own blog for ages, but I didn't know what I wanted to do. I then figured that I would combine my 2 artistic loves: Film, and Comics. And thus we have: FILMS ON PAPER.
When I was about 6 years old, my mother introduced me to the power of films. She would show greats such as "The Color Purple", "Paper Moon", "Empire of the Sun", and many hundreds more movies that began to influence me. And thus, a love of movies began to blossom. I then made up my mind that I wanted to become a film director.
The only problem was that we couldn't even afford dinner half the time, let alone have the means to support a creative fantasy. So I did the next best thing, I picked up a pencil!
Man, am I glad I did that. I was soon able to transfer all that energy of wanting to make a film, and put it on paper, and what better medium to do it through than comics?!
So here I am, 20 years later. I still do not have the financial means to make my movies yet (does any body?), and I am still drawing comics. So here is where I'll continue to channel some of that energy, and hopefully I can make somethin of it all, or at least meet some cool people along the way...

FADE TO BLACK:

To be continued.....

ROLL END CREDITS.Justinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12357508074752584374noreply@blogger.com2
